About Wellesbourne Airfield

Wellesbourne Airfield is just five miles from Stratford upon Avon. It is a family owned private airfield with a number of flying schools, both fixed wing and helicopters, also privately owned aircraft of different shapes sizes and age, from modern to vintage. Any one wishing to take to the air has a choice of aircraft and experiences.

A straight forward pleasure flight either in a fixed wing or helicopter when you can admire the beautiful Warwickshire countryside or you can have a trial lesson and actually experience flying for yourself. In addition we have an excellent Café with great views across the airfield , A WW2 museum and a Vulcan both withvisits by arrangement.

Early in 1941 the Government purchased over 200 acres of Warwickshire farmland 6 miles East of Stratford Upon Avon. By Summer, new runways had replaced crops and livestock and the farmhouse of the Littler family. It was designated as RAF Wellesbourne Mountford, the base of No.22 Operational Training Unit until the close of the war in 1945. No. 22 OTU was equipped with Vickers Wellington bombers supplemented by Avro Anson navigational trainers.
